Paper Over II

"The Interaction of Color" was a group show at the Ann Street Gallery in Newburgh, New York from August - October 2017. My installation Paper Over II was the second iteration of the cut-paper work that was initially installed at Artspace, New Haven in April 2017. In this iteration, the pyramids were arranged in a central diamond composition with the tallest spikes on the outer rim while the colors vary in hue, value, and intensity. The effect is an overwhelmingly physical manifestation of color.

The Interaction of Color

Fittingly, the title of the show refers to the eponymous text by Josef Albers, originally published by Yale University Press in 1963 as a a limited silkscreen edition with 150 color plates. This text was a teacher aid for Albers, who taught color theory at Yale University beginning in 1950. The book is an essential manual that explores color relativity, intensity, and temperature.
